Inspiration: This adorable simple hat is inspired by Daisy Craft Farms’ blog post about the “Fun Fringe Beanie.” Tiffany and her sister Cyndi created this fun fringe hat and I could not stop making them! So simple and so sweet. Find this pattern here: https://daisyfarmcrafts.com/crochet-fun-fringe-beanie/ It also inspired me to make this Bobble and Sweet hat, a play on the name Bubble & Squeak.
What is Bubble and Squeak? I remember eating this dish many times when I was a child, my Mum would make this traditional leftover meal after our regular Sunday family dinners. You can check out Jamie Oliver’s dish. It includes any roasted shredded meat or vegetables left over from Sunday’s dinner that would be fried in the pan the next day to create this big and beautiful veggie patty. Check it out here: https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/potato-recipes/bubble-squeak/
Pattern notes: I found the best way to make sure your toque fits is to make the base chain and use the measurement shown in the chart I borrowed from Daisy Craft Farms. Also please note that you are making the toque lengthwise so the length of your hat is the height. I also had to really make sure I counted each row because the slip stitches can make it a little tricky! The pattern written here does give you the count for the size shown in the picture, which is age 3-6 months.
Let's start crocheting blissful yogi’s!
LET'S BEGIN!
Crochet Pattern: Begin with a chain of 41 or the chain that will fit the size you are making, with the main colour. (Blue).
Row 1: Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 1 SC into all 40 chains. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: SS into the same stitch as chain 1, SS in the next 4 stitches, sc in both loops of the remaining 35 stitches, chain 1 turn. (40 stitches)
Row 3: SC into all 40 stitches. Ch 1 turn.
Row 4: SS into the next 5 stitches, SC into both loops of the remaining 35 stitches. Chain 1 turn. (40 st)
*Repeat rows 3 and row 4 until you have the width of your hat. I did 48 rows in total.
Once you have measured and found you have the correct width you will fold the hat length-wise and SS the two sides together. Yarn off and sew in your end.
Top of hat:
Round 1: Join the orange yarn and chain 1, SC into each stitch around and slip stitch to join. (48 st)
Round 2: SC into the first chain space, chain 3 skip two spaces, SC in next. Repeat around. SS to join.
Round 3: Chain 1, SS into the chain 3 space. Chain 6, DC3tog into the 3rd chain from the hook. DC3tog into the 4th chain from hook, SS the posts together. SS into the same chain 3 space. Repeat all around. SS to join. Yarn off and leave a long tail to cinch in the top of the hat.
Finishing: Sew in all ends and add your tag.
